Pierre Vogel (born July 20, 1978), also known asAbu Hamza[3] (Arabic:أبو حمزة) is a GermanIslamic[4]preacher and a former professionalboxer.
Vogel was born inFrechen. He turned professional at the age of 22, fighting briefly (for two years) as acruiserweight for theSauerland club and was undefeated in seven bouts.[1]
Vogel converted toIslam in 2001 and shortly thereafter began courses inIslamic studies in Germany, and then studied inMedina.[5][6]
He is considered to be one of the most influential Muslims in Germany.[7]
Vogel is married to a MuslimMoroccan woman and father of three children.[8]
