Pier Ugo Gobbato was born on 12 June1918 inFlorence,Italy, son ofUgo Gobbato and Dianella Mairsaj.In1919 the family moved toTurin, his father Ugo started working atFiat, becoming the first director of theLingotto factory, with the task of organizing the conversion of plants from war production to civil production.In1924 Gobbato attended elementary school in Turin and high school at the Real CollegioCarlo Alberto,Moncalieri.In1936 he attended thePolitecnico di Milano.
In 1937 he participated in theMille Miglia with Mario Camellini onFiat 508 CS Balilla Sport n. 42 (Turismo Category 701-1,100 cc) made byScuderia Ferrari. Retired afterFlorence.
