Piazzatorre (Bergamasque:Piassatór) is acomune (municipality) in theProvince of Bergamo in theItalian region ofLombardy, located about 70 kilometres (43 mi) northeast ofMilan and about 35 kilometres (22 mi) north ofBergamo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 475 and an area of 23.6 square kilometres (9.1 sq mi).[3]
In the territory of Piazzotorre exists the ski area ofTorcole.
The first upper-classMilanese tourists began to arrive in Piazzotorre at the beginning of the 20th century. Until the 1940s of the past century there was only summer tourism but due to the development of the Torcole Ski Area, winter tourism began in Piazzatorre.[4]
