Phoebe was the daughter ofLeucippus[1][AI-generated source?] andPhilodice, daughter ofInachus.[2] She and her sisterHilaera are commonly referred to as Leucippides (that is, "daughters of Leucippus"). In another account, they were the daughters of Apollo.[3] Phoebe marriedPollux[4] and bore him a son, named eitherMnesileos[5] orMnasinous.[6]

Mythology

Phoebe and Hilaera were priestesses ofAthena andArtemis, and betrothed toIdas andLynceus, the sons ofAphareus.Castor andPollux were charmed by their beauty and carried them off.[7] When Idas and Lynceus tried to rescue their brides-to-be they were both slain, but Castor himself fell.[8] Pollux persuadedZeus to allow him to share his immortality with his brother.[9]
