Phil Noto is anAmerican painter andcomic book artist who is known for his work on such titles asJonah Hex,X-23,Uncanny X-Force and, more recently,Black Widow. His work onThe Infinite Horizon (a modern retelling ofThe Odyssey) withGerry Duggan earned him anEisner nomination for Best New Series.[1] Noto has also worked as a concept artist for video games such asBioShock.

Career

According to Noto, he attended theRingling School of Art & Design for three years before gaining an internship atDisney. This internship turned into a ten-year career there as aclean-up artist for animated work, includingThe Lion King,Pocahontas,The Hunchback of Notre Dame,Mulan,Tarzan,Lilo & Stitch, andBrother Bear. He began to get jobs as an artist forMarvel andDC, as well asImage andDark Horse Comics after selling some of hisfan art. One painting in particular was purchased by fellow comic book artist Tim Townsend, which sparked a friendship between the two.

Noto describes his art as "retro paperback cover" style and citesAdam Hughes,Robert McGinnis,Mike Mignola andAlex Toth as influences.[2]
