Phil Lee

English jazz guitarist

Phillip Robert Lee (born 8 April 1943, London, England. Died 12 May 2024)[1] was an Englishjazz guitarist.

Lee studied guitar withIke Isaacs as a teenager and was a member of theNational Youth Jazz Orchestra, including for their performance at the 1960 Antibes Jazz Festival.[1] Later in the 1960s he played with John Williams[who?] andGraham Collier[2] and in a band that includedBob Stuckey,Dudu Pukwana, andJohn Marshall.

During the 1970s, he played in jazz-rock bands such asGilgamesh and Axel withTony Coe and withMichael Garrick,Henry Lowther, andJohn Stevens.[2] He recordedTwice Upon a Time (1987) withJeff Clyne.[2] Later in his career he worked withGordon Beck,Andres Boiarsky,Benny Goodman,Lena Horne,Marian Montgomery,Annie Ross, and theLondon Jazz Orchestra.
