Philip Matthew Horner (born 10 November 1966) is an English former professionalfootballer. He is now a qualifiedphysiotherapist and works at his former playing clubBlackpool.
Horner was born inLeeds,West Yorkshire. He began his career withLeicester City in 1983, but he only made ten league appearances in five years atFilbert Street and spent a short spell on loan atRotherham United in the1985–86 season.
In 1988, he joinedHalifax Town, then managed byBilly Ayre. Horner followed Ayre toBlackpool when the latter became manager of the Tangerines in 1990. In six years atBloomfield Road he made 187 league appearances, scoring 22 goals.
He joinednon-LeagueSouthport on loan in the1995–96 season. After finishing his professional playing career atBloomfield Road, Horner returned to Southport on a permanent basis while he studied for aBachelor of Science degree in physiotherapy.[2] He finished his playing career withLancaster City in the1999–2000 season in theNorthern Premier League Premier Division.
After gaining his degree in Physiotherapy from theUniversity of Salford, Horner worked as a physiotherapist atRoyal Preston Hospital before returning toBloomfield Road to become Blackpool's club physiotherapist in November 2000,[2][3] a role he continues to fulfill.[4] Horner is a member of both theChartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Council of Professional Supplementary Medicine.
