Phenacemide (INN,BAN) (brand namePhenurone), also known asphenylacetylurea, is ananticonvulsant of theureide (acetylurea) class.[1] It is acongener and ring-openedanalogue ofphenytoin (ahydantoin),[2][3] and is structurally related to thebarbiturates and to otherhydantoins.[4] Phenacemide was introduced in 1949 for the treatment ofepilepsy, but was eventually withdrawn due totoxicity.[2][3]
