Petra Kandarr (néeVogt; 20 August 1950 inHalle – 12 March 2017 inKarlsruhe)[1] was an East German sprinter who specialized in the100- and200-metre track events.

Biography

At the1969 European Championships she won gold medals in both the 100 m and 200 m[2] as well as a gold medal in4x100 metres relay together with teammatesBärbel Podeswa,Renate Meißner andRegina Höfer. For this achievement she was selected as theDDR Sportswoman of the Year.

At the1971 European Championships she won a silver medal in relay together with teammatesKarin Balzer,Renate Stecher andEllen Stropahl. Kandarr then won a silver medal in 60 metres at the1973 European Indoor Championships, behindAnnegret Richter of West Germany.

She competed for the clubSC Chemie Halle during her active career.

Her daughterJana Kandarr, born 1976, is a former professionaltennis player and competed at the 2000 Olympic Games.
