Petrus Reininus Johannes "Peter" van Niekerk (born 30 November 1971 inHazerswoude) is asailor from theNetherlands,[1][2] who represented his country for the first time at the2000 Summer Olympics inSydney.[3][4] WithRoy Heiner as helmsman andDirk de Ridder as fellow crew member, Van Niekerk took the 4th place[5] in theSoling. In the2004 Olympics inAthena Van Niekerk made his second Olympic appearance.[6] This time in theStar withMark Neeleman as helmsman.[7] They took 14th place.[8]

In 1997–98, he was a crewmember onVolvo 60 yachtBrunel Sunergy in theWhitbread Round the World Race and in 2008–09 on yachtDelta Lloyd in theVolvo Ocean Race.[9][10]

He sailed forALL4ONE Challenge in the 2010Louis Vuitton Trophy Dubai.[11]
