Peter (1291 – 29 August 1315), calledTempesta (meaning "storm"), was the Count ofEboli from 1306. He was the eighth son ofCharles II of Naples andMaria of Hungary (seeElizabeth of Sicily).[1] His sobriquet came from his stormy temperament.

In 1309, he receivedNocera andIsernia and exchangedMontescaglioso forSorrento andCastellammare di Stabia. He began serving his brother,King Robert, against theGhibellines ofUguccione della Faggiuola inTuscany. He led 300 knights and was given the title of "Vicar ofTuscany,Lombardy,Romagna, the city ofBertinoro, and the city ofFerrara andCaptain-General of theGuelph party of Tuscany".

He celebrated ajubilee atSiena and then moved on toFlorence, where he stayed with theMozzi family and the commune granted him a stipend of 4,000florins. He tookArezzo on 29 September 1314, but Uguccione tookLucca. At Robert's request, Peter brought reinforcements north and met with initial successes. At theBattle of Montecatini, his forces were defeated by Uguccione and the Ghibellines, and Peter was killed.[2]
