Peter Cornwell is an Australian filmmaker. Cornwell got his start working at theAustralian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) inSydney, Australia.[citation needed] Cornwell left ABC in order to create Trephine Production Studios, which he used to complete his award-winning shortWard 13, a stop motion animation that enjoyed success at several international film festivals.[1]Ward 13 received the FIPRESCI Award from theInternational Federation of Film Critics at Valladolid, and was short-listed for anOscar nomination in 2005.[2]
After the success ofWard 13, Cornwell partnered withGold Circle Films andLions Gate to direct the psychological horror filmThe Haunting in Connecticut.[3] The film had its world premiere at theSouth by Southwest Film Festival inAustin, Texas and starsVirginia Madsen,Kyle Gallner, andMartin Donovan.[4] It was released in March 2009 and went on to gross over $77 million worldwide.[5]
Cornwell also directed the feature filmMercy, an adaptation ofStephen King's short storyGramma, which was produced byJason Blum'sBlumhouse Productions,McG'sWonderland Sound and Vision, andUniversal Pictures.[6]Mercy starredChandler Riggs,Joel Courtney,Frances O'Connor andMark Duplass.[7]
