Peter John Bickel (born 1940) is an Americanstatistician[1] and Professor of Statistics at theUniversity of California, Berkeley.[2] Bickel has made contributions tobootstrapping,robust statistics,machine learning, and other areas of statistics.[1]

Education and career

Bickel studied physics at theCalifornia Institute of Technology.[3] He graduated fromUniversity of California, Berkeley, with a Ph.D., in 1963, where he studied underErich Leo Lehmann.[4]

His students includeC.F. Jeff Wu,Jianqing Fan,Katerina Kechris,Elizaveta Levina, andDonald Andrews.[5]

Personal

He married Nancy Kramer in 1964; they have two children.[6]
