Petasti (or Petaste;Greek: πεταστή) is aneume ofByzantine chant notation, which is usually called a flutter inEnglish. In the most general form it means "Go one note up, and stress this note",[1] where the "stress" is usually interpreted either as amordent of Western music (in a high tempo), as atriplet (in a mediumtempo), or as a sequence of twoeighth notes and aquarter note (in a slow tempo).
Petasti can also be combined with other neumes, such asoligon, to form jumps of more than one note up, still stressed with a flutter.
