Periparus is agenus of birds in thetit familyParidae. The birds in the genus were formerly included inParus but were moved toPeriparus whenParus was split into several resurrected genera following the publication of a detailedmolecular phylogenetic analysis in 2005.[2][3]
The namePeriparus had been introduced for asubgenus ofParus that included thecoal tit by the Belgium naturalistEdmond de Sélys Longchamps in 1884.[4] The genus name, isAncient Greekperi plus the pre-existing genusParus.[5]

All occur in Asia; the coal tit also has a wide range inEurope andNorth Africa. These birds have white cheeks and most have a tufted head.
