Pende (Phende) is aBantu language of theDemocratic Republic of the Congo. Giphende is spoken inKwilu Province, inGungu andIdiofa districts as well as some areas ofKasaï Province. TheBapende used to call themselvesAkwa Nzumba (in Kasai),Akwa Thunda (in Gungu), orAkwa Mbongo (in Idiofa).
