Paulo Henrique Marques (born 18 March 1965) is a Brazilianfootballcoach and former player who played as aleft back. He is the current head coach ofVeranópolis.
Marques spent his entire playing and managerial career in the state ofRio Grande do Sul, and also coached mainly in that state.
Marques was born inSanta Rosa,Rio Grande do Sul, and started his career withSão Borja [pt] in 1985.[1] He never left his home state during his entire career, representingDínamo [pt] (three spells),Oriental [pt],São José de Cachoeira do Sul [pt],Santo Ângelo andPalmeirense [pt], retiring in 1997.[1]
Marques started his managerial career with former club Santo Ângelo in 1999, being in charge of the under-20 squad.[2] After being in charge of another clubs' youth teams, he returned to Santo Ângelo in 2002, being appointed first-team manager and achieving an impressive fifth position in the year'sCampeonato Gaúcho.[2]
Marques then worked withBagé in the remainder of the 2002 season,[3] and later joinedUlbra as a football coordinator. In October 2007, he replaced sackedPaulo Porto as manager of the latter team,[4] but was dismissed the following March.[5]
Marques then went on to work atPasso Fundo,Santa Cruz-RS andGuarany de Bagé[6] before returning to Santo Ângelo in 2009, where he replacedMazarópi.[7] He later took charge ofGuarany de Camaquã,Avenida,[8] and then returned to Guarany de Camaquã before being appointed manager ofEsportivo for the 2011 season in November 2010.[9]
Sacked in March 2011,[10] Marques subsequently managed hometown sideJuventus[11] andTupy,[12] before returning to Guarany de Camaquã for the 2013 season.[13] He later returned to Tupy, where he won the 2013Campeonato Gaúcho Série B with the club.
Marques was named manager ofPalmeirense for the 2014 campaign,[14] but later moved back to former side Veranópolis.[15] In February 2015, he was appointed manager ofInter de Santa Maria's under-20s,[16] but returned to Tupy for the 2016 season.[2]
On 19 August 2016, Marques was appointedSão Luiz manager for the 2017 campaign.[17] He achieved immediate promotion toCampeonato Gaúcho as champions, and managed to avoid relegation in the following year. In March 2018, he was named manager ofNovo Hamburgo forthe year'sSérie D,[18] but agreed to return to São Luiz in July,[19] achieving an impressive fourth position with the latter in the 2019Campeonato Gaúcho.
On 29 June 2019, Marques was announced as manager ofCaxias,[20] but left the club in July after the club was knocked out of the Série D.[21] On 30 September, he agreed to a deal withYpiranga to become the club's manager for the ensuing campaign.[22]
Marques resigned on 20 November 2020, and subsequently returned to São Luiz the following day.[23] On 15 March 2022, he replacedPaulo Baier at the helm ofSão José-RS,[24] but was sacked on 15 August, after the club's elimination in the2022 Série C.
Marques worked for a brief period atNovo Hamburgo before being named in charge of fellow third division sideManaus on 19 October 2022.[25] On 24 February 2023, after being knocked out of the2023 Copa Verde, he resigned.[26]
