Paul and his companions (died 1240) wereDominicanmartyrs.Hungarian by birth, Paul went on to studylaw at theUniversity of Bologna, and was persuaded bySt. Dominic, to hisorder of Friars Preachers. Paul would later return to his nativeHungary, to establish theDominican Order there. The group were met with much animosity, especially by theCumans, atWallachia, where they were slaughtered by the locals.[1]
