Paul Shyre (March 8, 1926 – November 19, 1989) was an American director andplaywright who received aSpecial Tony Award and won aRegional Emmy Award.[1] He is noted for the playsHizzoner,Will Rogers' USA andThe President Is Dead.[2]
Shyre graduated from theUniversity of Florida and theAmerican Academy of Dramatic Arts. He was a professor of theater arts atCornell University.[3]
Shyre adapted to the stage, directed and co-produced the Sean O'Casey novels,Pictures in the Hallway,I Knock at the Door andDrums Under the Windows. He also wrote and directedA Whitman Portrait andAn Unpleasant Evening With H.L. Mencken.[1]
