Paul Lazarus Germain[1] (born June 6, 1959) is an American writer, director, and producer. Germain—along withArlene Klasky andGábor Csupó—was one of the creators of theNickelodeon animated seriesRugrats.[2] He also co-created the seriesRecess[3] andLloyd in Space,[3] also having worked onThe Tracey Ullman Show andEven Stevens.
By the age of 24, Germain was credited onTerms of Endearment,Say Anything...,Big andBroadcast News, which was produced byJames L. Brooks forGracie Films. He worked withRugrats colleagueJoe Ansolabehere to create Disney'sRecess andLloyd in Space. Germain and Ansolabehere formed the television production company Paul & Joe Productions. They worked in tandem onPound Puppies forDiscovery Family andDisney Junior'sGoldie & Bear. He was a screenwriter on the direct-to-DVD filmTinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.
Germain's son was the inspiration for theRugrats characterTommy Pickles; the antagonist,Angelica Pickles, was based on a bully from his childhood.[2]
Germain is Jewish.[4]
