Paul Bennett (born 16 December 1988) is a Britishrower and Olympic gold medallist.[1]

Rowing career

Bennett won theBoat Race in 2013 sitting at five for Oxford.

He competed at the2014 World Rowing Championships inBosbaan,Amsterdam, where he won a gold medal as part of the eight withNathaniel Reilly-O'Donnell,Matthew Tarrant,Will Satch,Matt Gotrel,Pete Reed,Tom Ransley,Constantine Louloudis andPhelan Hill.[2] The following year he was part of the British team that topped the medal table at the2015 World Rowing Championships atLac d'Aiguebelette in France, where he won a gold medal as part of the eight withMatt Gotrel, Louloudis, Reed,Moe Sbihi,Alex Gregory,George Nash, Satch and Hill.[3]

In 2016 he won a gold medal in theeight at the2016 Summer Olympics.[4]

Awards

He was appointedMember of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the2017 New Year Honours for services to rowing.[5][6]

Education

From the age of about twelve until he was eighteen Bennett was educated atRoundhay School. Later he went on to graduate with a first class MSci in mathematics fromKing's College London in 2012, and completed an MSc inComputer Science atKellogg College, Oxford in 2013.[7]
