Patrick Gilmar Sequeira Mejías (born 1 March 1999) is a Costa Rican professionalfootballer who plays as agoalkeeper forPrimeira Liga clubCasa Pia and theCosta Rica national team.

Club career

Born inLimón, Sequeira was promoted to the first team ofDeportivo Saprissa in June 2016.[2] In August 2017, after being only a third-choice, he moved abroad and signed a two-year loan deal with Spanish sideReal Unión.[3]

Sequeira made his senior debut for Real Unión on 29 October 2017, in a 3–0Segunda División B away loss againstCD Tudelano. On 16 July 2019, after acting mainly as a backup, he signed a permanent two-year contract.[4]

On 8 September 2020, Sequeira moved toCelta Vigo on loan for one year, being initially assigned tothe reserves inSegunda División B.[5] Upon returning, he featured rarely for Real Unión inPrimera División RFEF.

On 4 July 2022, Sequeira agreed to a three-year deal withSegunda División sideCD Lugo.[6]

On 3 July 2023, Sequeira signed a two-year contract withPrimera Federación clubIbiza.[7]

On 25 July 2024, a deal was agreed for Sequeira's transfer toPrimeira Liga sideCasa Pia.[8]

International career

Sequeira was part of the squad at the2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup, but did not play any match. Originally set to make his debut in a group stage match againstJamaica, he suffered an ankle injury moments before the match and was replaced byLeonel Moreira.[9]

His debut came during a friendly match againstSouth Korea in November 2022, when Sequeira came in as a substitute forJoel Campbell asEsteban Alvarado received a red card. Sequeira's first instant of action as a goalkeeper for Costa Rica was also his first goal conceded, as Alvarado's red card also meant a close free kick eventually scored bySon Heung-min.[10]

During the Copa America of 2024, Sequeira kept a clean sheet vs Brasil, becoming the first Costa Rican keeper to do so in 64 years, he subsequently was honored with the player of the match award.
