Sri Lankan Indologist and Sanskrit scholar (born 1942)
Patrick Olivelle is anIndologist .[ 1] [ 2] philologist and scholar ofSanskrit Literature whose work has focused onasceticism ,renunciation and thedharma , Olivelle has been Professor of Sanskrit and Indian Religions in the Department of Asian Studies at theUniversity of Texas at Austin since 1991.[ 1] [ 3]
Olivelle was born inSri Lanka .[ 3] University of Oxford , where he studiedSanskrit ,Pali andIndian religions withThomas Burrow andR.C. Zaehner .[ 3] University of Pennsylvania in 1974 for a thesis containing the critical edition and translation of Yadava Prakasa'sYatidharmaprakasa under the supervision ofLudo Rocher .[ 3] Indiana University Bloomington .[ 1]
