Patricia Gadelha Pillar (born 11 January 1964) is a Brazilian actress, producer, film director, screenwriter, and television presenter.

Pillar was born inBrasília,Distrito Federal to Nuno Pillar and Lucy Gadelha. She was born only three months before the1964 Brazilian coup d'état, and due to her father's occupation as aNavy officer, she lived in various places inBrazil, such asVitória,Espírito Santo, andSantos,São Paulo, before settling inRio de Janeiro at the age of 14.

Pillar always wanted to be anactress, so she started working while inhigh school in order to pay for her acting lessons.

At 16, she became a photographic model. She studiedjournalism but gave it up to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. She joined the theatre groupAsdrúbal Trouxe o Trombone alongsideRegina Casé, before getting her first film role inPara Viver um Grande Amor, alongside singerDjavan. That role granted her a part in the famous 1985Rede GlobotelenovelaRoque Santeiro, created byDias Gomes. Since then, she has starred in twelve other Globo telenovelas. She has also starred in eleven feature films, including the 1995Academy Award-nominatedO Quatrilho, alongsideGlória Pires.

In 2005, Pillar debuted as adirector. Her first film was adocumentary about the Brazilian singerWaldick Soriano and it was titledWaldick - Sempre No Meu Coração (which means, inPortuguese,Waldick - Always In My Heart).[1]

Personal life

Patrícia Pillar was married to the politicianCiro Gomes from theBrazilian Socialist Party. They started dating when Gomes was still legally married toPatrícia Saboya, then senator fromCeará, causing controversy in the media. In 2002, Pillar played an important role in Gomes' presidential campaign, although she was recovering frombreast cancer. Prior to that, she was married toMPB singer-songwriterZé Renato from 1985-95.[2]

She is a cousin of some of the most famous singers on theBrazilian music scene:Preta Gil,Moreno Veloso,Luiza Possi, Davi Moraes andMarina Lima.[3]
