Theparametrium is the fibrous and fattyconnective tissue that surrounds theuterus.[1] This tissue separates the supravaginal portion of thecervix from thebladder. The parametrium lies in front of the cervix and extends laterally between the layers of thebroad ligaments. It connects the uterus to other tissues in thepelvis.[1] It is different from theperimetrium, which is the outermost layer of the uterus.
Theuterine artery andovarian ligament are located in the parametrium.
An associated form ofpelvic inflammatory disease is inflammation of the parametrium known asparametritis.
