Parachinar Airport (IATA:PAJ,ICAO:OPPC) is a defunctairport located inParachinar, inPakistan'sKhyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Located at about a 25-minute drive from the centre ofParachinar, it used to be the only airport in the formerFATA region that was served by any passenger airline, namelyPakistan International Airlines. ThePIA service to the airport used to be intermittently suspended for varying durations.[2]
The airport was built in the 1980s, following the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, to provide landing facilities for military aircraft.[3]
