Panyalam orpanyam, is a traditionalFilipino-Bangsamoro friedricepancake. It is made withground glutinous rice,muscovado (orbrown sugar), andcoconut milk mixed into abatter that isdeep-fried.[1][2][3][4]
Panyalam originates fromMindanao and nearby islands. It is particularly popular amongMuslim Filipinos, including among theMaguindanao,Maranao,Sama-Bajau, andTausug people. It is commonly served during special occasions and religious holidays (notably duringHari Raya).[2][3] It is also a traditional dish among nativeChristian andanimistLumad groups, like theMansaka and non-Islamized communities of theSama-Bajau.[5][6]
