Panuozzo (Italian:[paˈnwɔttso];[3]Neapolitan:o' panuozzo;pl.:panuozzi;panuozzo =pane +ozzo) is anItaliansandwich of pizza bread stuffed with fillings of meat and vegetables.[1] It was invented in 1983 by thepizzaiolo ('pizza maker') Giuseppe Mascolo, from thecomune (municipality) ofGragnano, nearNaples, Italy, and was first adopted in the region of theMonti Lattari (Pimonte,Agerola, andSant'Antonio Abate). Various fillings can be used, such asmozzarella or other dairy products, tomatoes, several vegetables (e.g.,aubergine andcourgette),Italian sausages and sliced meats,friggitelli, and so on.[1][4][5]
Panuozzo is officially recognised as aprodotto agroalimentare tradizionale (PAT).[6]
