Pamela Bellwood (bornPamela King,[1] 26 June 1951 inNew York City) is an American actress known for her role asClaudia Blaisdel Carrington on the 1980sprime timesoap opera,Dynasty.
Bellwood became interested in an acting career when she portrayed Emily inOur Town. She studied acting in New York withSanford Meisner at theNeighborhood Playhouse, and in London.[2][3] In 1971, she starred as Jill Tanner in a production ofButterflies Are Free at theParker Playhouse inFort Lauderdale, Florida.[1] By 1972, Bellwood was onBroadway, taking over fromBlythe Danner as Jill inButterflies Are Free at theBooth Theatre, and appearing withBarbara Bel Geddes inFinishing Touches.[3] Her performance inButterflies Are Free earned her aClarence Derwent Award in 1972.[4]
Early on, Bellwood was credited asPamela Kingsley because there was already a working actress named Pamela King.[1] In 1974, she appeared in an episode ofPaul Sand in Friends and Lovers. Later in 1974, she appeared as Jill Martin in an episode ofRhoda entitled "9-E is available". In 1978, she played the starring role of TV executive Ellen Cunningham inW.E.B., an NBC drama about a fictional television network.[5] Poor ratings led to the show being cancelled after only five episodes.
In her role ofClaudia Blaisdel Carrington, Bellwood was an original cast member ofDynasty in January 1981,[6] and was written out of the series early in the third season, in late 1982. She appeared once in March 1983 to help usher inJack Coleman as a recastSteven Carrington, and later returned full-time in October 1983. She remained a key character for several seasons until leaving the series a final time in 1986 to become a full-time mother. 20 years later, in 2006, she appeared with her formerDynasty castmates in the non-fiction specialDynasty Reunion: Catfights & Caviar.
Bellwood posed for an eight-page pictorial in the April 1983 edition ofPlayboy magazine.[3]
Bellwood also appeared in such films asTwo-Minute Warning,Airport '77 andThe Incredible Shrinking Woman, as well as a number of TV movies.[3] She continues to perform in film and on stage. She is now known and often credited as Pamela Bellwood-Wheeler.
In the early 1970s, Bellwood was married to British writer Peter Bellwood.[1] In 1984, she married photographerNik Wheeler.[7]
