Palmetto is a city located mostly inFulton County (originallyCampbell County) and now partly inCoweta County in theU.S. state ofGeorgia. The population was 5,071 at the2020 census.
TheGeorgia General Assembly incorporated Palmetto as a town in 1854.[4] The community was named after thePalmetto Regiment of theMexican–American War.[5] In 2023, Palmetto elected its first female andAfrican American mayor when Teresa Thomas-Smith won the election by 84 votes.[6]
