ThePaducah, KY–IL Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by theUnited States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of five counties – three in theJackson Purchase region ofKentucky, a fourth Kentucky county bordering the Purchase, and one inSouthernIllinois – anchored by the city ofPaducah, Kentucky. The Paducah KY-IL Micropolitan Statistical Area was upgraded to Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) status on July 21, 2023, by the Office of Management and Budget. (OMB Bulletin No. 23-01).[1] Carlisle County, Kentucky, was added to the area following the 2020 Census of the Population. The total MSA population from the 2020 United States census was 103,486.
As of the2000 census, theμSA had a population of 98,765 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 98,609).[2]
As of thecensus[3] of 2000, there were 98,765 people, 41,398 households, and 28,070 families residing within the μSA. The racial makeup of the μSA was 78.31%White, 19.53%African American, 0.22%Native American, 0.40%Asian, 0.04%Pacific Islander, 0.35% fromother races, and 1.14% from two or more races.Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 0.95% of the population.
The median income for a household in the μSA was $32,317, and the median income for a family was $40,613. Males had a median income of $33,797 versus $20,906 for females. Theper capita income for the μSA was $17,994.
ThePaducah–Mayfield, KY-IL Combined Statistical Area is made up of four counties in the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky, a fifth Kentucky county that borders the Purchase, and one county in southern Illinois. The statistical area includes the Paducah, KY-IL Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Mayfield, KYmicropolitan area. As of the 2020 Census, the CSA had a population of 140,135. The 2000 total was 135,793 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 136,328).[4]
