Pénestin (French pronunciation:[penetɛ̃];[3][4][5]Breton:Pennestin) is acommune in theMorbihandepartment ofBrittany in north-westernFrance.[6]

Geography

Pénestin is located inGuérande Peninsula, 29 km (18 mi) southeast ofVannes and 75 km (47 mi) northwest ofNantes. The mouth of the riverVilaine forms a natural bourndary to the north. Historically, Pénestin belongs toLower Brittany. As Penestin lies on the coast, it boasts several beaches, the most popular of which areLa Mine d'Or andLoscolo.

Until the beginning of the nineteen's century, the spoken language was breton. Most of the hamlets have breton names.

Tourism

Pénestin is a very popular seaside resort. As of 2020, 71.1% of the properties areholiday homes,[8] one of the highest percentage in Morbihan.
