Osborne Llewellyn Timmons (born September 18, 1970), is an American former professionalbaseballoutfielder and current assistant hittingcoach for theTampa Bay Rays ofMajor League Baseball (MLB). He played in MLB from1995 through2000 for theChicago Cubs,Cincinnati Reds,Seattle Mariners, andTampa Bay Devil Rays. He also played inNippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in2001 for theChunichi Dragons.

Playing career

Timmons attendedBrandon High School inBrandon, Florida, and theUniversity of Tampa, where he playedcollege baseball for theTampa Spartans.[1] In 1990, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theFalmouth Commodores of theCape Cod Baseball League.[2] He was selected by theChicago Cubs in the fifth round of the1991 MLB draft.[1]

Timmons made his MLB debut with the Cubs on April 26, 1995. The Cubs traded Timmons and Jay Peterson to theCincinnati Reds forCurt Lyons on March 31, 1997. He signed with theSeattle Mariners for the 1999 season, theTampa Bay Devil Rays for the 2000 season, and was purchased by theChunichi Dragons ofNippon Professional Baseball'sCentral League for the 2001 season.[1]

Coaching career

Timmons served as thehitting coach for theTampa Bay RaysTriple-A affiliateDurham Bulls, prior to being promoted to the parent-club Rays, as theirfirst base coach, for the2018 season.[3]

After the 2021 season, theMilwaukee Brewers hired Timmons andConnor Dawson as their hitting coaches.[4] On October 21, 2024, Brewers executiveMatt Arnold stated that Timmons would not return for the 2025 season.[5][6]

On January 22, 2025, Timmons returned to the Rays organization under the role of special assistant, coaching development.[7] On November 3, Timmons was hired by the Rays as their assistant hitting coach.[8]
