The followingoutline is an overview of and topical guide toThailand:

Thailand is asovereign nation in the center ofMainland Southeast Asia. It lies east of theAndaman Sea, betweenMyanmar,Laos,Cambodia, surrounds theGulf of Thailand andMalaysia to the south. It was formerly called Siam until 1939. As of 2023[update], it is aparliamentary constitutional monarchy. Important former Thai kingdoms areSukhothai,Ayutthaya andRattanakosin. It had anabsolute monarchy for centuries. The firstconstitution was established in 1932. Themonarchy andmilitary have periodically intervened inpolitics. Thailand experienced rapid economic growth between 1985 and 1996, becoming anewly industrialized country and a major exporter.Manufacturing,agriculture, andtourism are leading sectors of the economy. Thailand was a founding member ofASEAN in 1967,[1] and the country'sHDI has been rated as "high" to "very high" (Central Thailand) in 2022.[2] The population of Thailand was 65.95 million in January 2025.[3] The official language isThai. TheThai people form the majority among 70ethnic groups. Thailand is the 50thlargest country and 3rd largest country inSoutheast Asia afterIndonesia andMyanmar.[4] There are 6regions of Thailand. The geography is diverse:Northern andWestern Thailand are mountainous,Central Thailand is the heartland with theChao Phraya River Basin,Northeastern Thailand has the aridKhorat Plateau, Eastern Thailand iscoastal with a mountainous interior, whileSouthern Thailand is narrow with long coastlines.
