Orthosia (Ancient Greek:Ὀρθωσία) was a town ofancient Caria, inhabited duringHellenistic,Roman, andByzantine times.[1] It was not far fromAlabanda, on the left bank of theMaeander River, and apparently on or near a hill of the same name.[2][3] Near this town theRhodians gained a victory over theCarians.[4][5][6][7] It was the seat of a bishop from an early date,[8] and, while no longer a residential bishopric, it remains under the nameOrthosias in Caria atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[9]
Its site is located nearYenipazar inAsiatic Turkey.[1][10]
