Study of grasshoppers and related insects

Orthopterology is the scientific study of the orderOrthoptera, which includesgrasshoppers,crickets,locusts and some other insects. Someone that studies in this field is anorthopterist.

The term is derived from theAncient Greek wordsὀρθός (orthós) andπτερόν (pterón), meaningstraight andwing respectively, with the English suffix-logy.[1]

A notable branch of orthopterology isacridology, which focuses on locusts and grasshoppers in the familyAcrididae and is relevant to famine prevention.
