Organic substituent with one or more free valences at a carbon atom

Inorganic andorganometallic chemistry, anorganyl group (commonly denoted by the letter "R") is an organicsubstituent with one (sometimes more) freevalence(-s) at acarbon atom.[1] The term is often used in chemicalpatent literature to protect claims over a broad scope.[citation needed]
