Oromo (Kyrgyz:оромо,Kazakh:орама,[wo.ɾɑ'mɑ],Mongolian:ороомог,Bashkir:ханума,romanized: xanuma) is a traditional-steamed pie made inCentral Asia, especially among theKazakh,Kyrgyz,Uzbeks,Bashkirs and theMongolians. The name comes from anominalisation of the word "to roll"/"to wrap", referring to how the food is made.[1]
Thedough for oromo is made fromflour, water, andsalt. It iskneaded and rolled thin, and a filling is spread over it. The filling may containmincedpotatoes, mincedmeat, animal fat, and sometimes mincedpumpkin or some other vegetable. The dough is then rolled around the filling in sections to create a long, thinwrap. The wraps are laid in a circle in steamer pots and steamed.[2]
