Ophelia Johanna Nick (néeSchily, born 24 January 1973) is a German veterinarian and politician ofAlliance 90/The Greens[1] who has been serving as a member of theBundestag since the2021 national elections, representing theMettmann II district.[2][3]

In addition to her parliamentary work, Nick served asParliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture in thecoalition government ofChancellorOlaf Scholz from 2021 to 2025.[4][5]

Early life and education

Nick is the daughter of physicians Angela Voith andKonrad Schily. From 1993 to 2000, she studiedveterinary medicine at theFree University of Berlin. In 2012, she completed aPhD program at theLudwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Political career

Nick joined the Green Party in 2010.[6]

From 2014 to 2018, Nick was part of Green Party’s leadership in North Rhine-Westphalia under its co-chairsMona Neubaur andSven Lehmann.[7]

In the negotiations to form acoalition government of theChristian Democratic Union (CDU) and the Green Party underMinister-President of North Rhine-WestphaliaHendrik Wüst following the2022 state elections, Nick was part of her party’s delegation in the working group on the environment, agriculture and consumer protection.[8]

In 2023, Nick joined a cross-party working group on dogs.[9]

Nick has two sons.[11] She is married to physician Oliver Nick, who has also two sons.[12][13]
