Onyxx (Sidney Green) is afictionalmutant appearing in comic books published byMarvel Comics.
Onyxx first appeared inX-Men (vol. 2) #171 (August 2005), and was created byPeter Milligan andSalvador Larroca.
Onyxx was killed byWither during the 2009 eventNecrosha. In a 2010 interview withComic Book Resources,Necrosha writerChristopher Yost stated that he disliked Onyxx and intended to kill him off earlier, but was stopped by editorial mandates.[1] Onyxx returned during theKrakoan Age in 2021, having been resurrected bythe Five.[2]
As a child, Sidney Green lived in various foster homes and orphanages, unable to find acceptance because of his crude behavior and chronicbedwetting.[3] This condition is cured after his mutant abilities activate, transforming him into a four-eyedgolem-like creature.
Onyxx becomes a student at theXavier Institute and is assigned toGambit's training squad, the Chevaliers.[4][5] Onyxx has a romantic interest in Foxx, a new student at the Institute. It is later revealed that Foxx is a disguisedMystique, who infiltrated the school to destabilize the relationship between her foster daughterRogue and Gambit.[5] Mystique escapes and injures Onyxx.[6]
Onyxx is one of 198 mutants who retain their powers afterM-Day, when theScarlet Witch removes the powers of most mutants on Earth. He continues to live at the Xavier Institute.[7]
Onyxx, along with fellow studentsMercury andLoa, is tasked with keeping peace inTelegraph Hill, San Francisco after the mutant-hate group "Humanity Now!" marches from Sacramento to San Francisco to promote "Proposition X". After the riots subside,Cyclops comes and picks the three up, taking them to City Hall.[8] He is also seen in the company ofAriel when she arrives to pick up an injuredTrance.[9]
InNecrosha, Onyxx is seen amongst those under attack bySelene's new Inner Circle onUtopia. Onyxx tries to sneak attackWither, who kills him by disintegrating his body.[10][11][12] Years after his death, Onyxx is resurrected following the establishment ofKrakoa as a mutant nation.[2][13]
Onyxx has a craggygranite body, which gives him superhuman strength and durability.
Gambit's Chevaliers were led by Bling! and included members like Onyxx, Flubber, and Rain Boy. Mystique attempted to infiltrate the team in disguise as a young mutant named Foxx, though she left the team when she was discovered.
Onyxx, Meld and Diamond Lil perished during the battle on Utopia. Onyxx in particular was killed by former student and ally, Wither, who had joined Selene's entourage after running away from the X-Men.
After accidentally using his powers on his crush's arm, Wither ran away and wound up joining Selene Gallio. He killed several police officers and his classmate Onyxx before Elixir stopped him.
The other rock-type guy in the crowd at the bottom can't be Rockslide, so it's presumably Onyxx, a similar-looking character from the Milligan/Larroca run.
