These two species were at one time included in the genusGymnopithys. They were moved to this newly erected genus based on the results of amolecular phylogenetic study published in 2014. Thetype species is the lunulated antbird.[2]
These species are specialistant-followers that depend on swarms ofarmy ants to flush insects and otherarthropods out of the leaf litter.[3]
