TheOltenian dialect (Romanian:subdialectul/graiul oltenesc) is adialect of theRomanian language spoken in the region ofOltenia, inRomania. Regionalisms from Oltenia includecloță (găină in standard Romanian, "chicken"),oichi (ochi, "eye") anda străfiga (a strănuta, "to sneeze").[1] A well-known particularity of the Oltenian dialect is the widespread usage of the simple perfect (perfectul simplu)verb form for both past and present actions.[2] Oltenian is also spoken in theTimok Valley by theTimok Vlachs ofSerbia andBulgaria. Other than Oltenian, they also speak theBanat dialect.[citation needed]
