Olivia Hastings Holt[1] (born August 5, 1997[2][3]) is an American actress and singer. She starred in theDisney XD seriesKickin' It,Disney Channel Original MovieGirl vs. Monster, and theDisney Channel Original SeriesI Didn't Do It. From 2018 to 2020, she portrayedTandy Bowen / Dagger in theFreeform seriesCloak & Dagger, theDisney XD seriesSpider-Man, and theHulu seriesRunaways. In 2021, she portrayed Kate Wallis inCruel Summer.

Holt had voice roles in the filmsTinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (2014) andGnome Alone (2017), and starred in the feature filmsClass Rank (2017),Same Kind of Different as Me (2017), andStatus Update (2018). Her debut EP,Olivia, was released onHollywood Records on July 15, 2016.

In 2023, Holt made herBroadway debut asRoxie Hart inChicago.[4]

Early life

Holt was born inGermantown, Tennessee, to Mark and Kim (née Peterson) Holt.[5][6] She has two siblings.[7][8] At age three, her family moved toNesbit, Mississippi, where she grew up after briefly living inMemphis, Tennessee.[8] Growing up, she took gymnastics classes for seven years.[9] In 2011, she moved toLos Angeles with her family.[3][8] She was homeschooled for part of her life but graduated fromOak Park High School in 2015.[10][11]

Career

Television

Holt began her acting career in local theater productions.[12] She started appearing in television commercials at the age of 10, for products includingHasbro,Kidz Bop 14,Mattel,Bratz dolls,Littlest Pet Shop, and Girl Gourmet.[13][14]

Possessing skills in gymnastics, Holt was cast inDisney XD's martial arts comedyKickin' It, which premiered on June 13, 2011.[15] She played the role of Kim in the series, as a main character in seasons 1–3, and as a special guest on three episodes in season 4.[16] She starred in the 2012Disney Channel Original MovieGirl vs. Monster, playing the lead character Skylar Lewis, a teenager who discovers that her family have long worked as monster hunters, and she is next in line.[17] She leftKickin' It as a regular after season 3 to star in theDisney Channel half-hour comedy seriesI Didn't Do It, which premiered on January 17, 2014. The series follows five friends, including Holt's character, Lindy Watson, a nerdy, athletic, social outcast.[18] The series ended on October 16, 2015, after two seasons.[19][20] In January 2017, Holt was cast asTandy Bowen / Dagger, one of the lead characters in theFreeform andMarvel Comics television seriesCloak & Dagger.[21][22] The series premiered in June 2018 and ran for two seasons until May 2019, after which it was canceled.[23] Holt and co-starAubrey Joseph reprised their roles in the animated seriesSpider-Man and a crossover episode inRunaways. Holt plays Kate Wallis on the seriesCruel Summer, a psychological thriller set between 1993 and 1995 that premiered onFreeform on April 20, 2021.[24]

Film

In November 2014, Holt joined the cast of the dramaSame Kind of Different as Me, directed by Michael Carney and also starringGreg Kinnear andRenée Zellweger,[25] who play her character's parents in the film.[26] The film was released in October 2017.[27] In November 2015, it was announced that Holt had been cast in a lead role in the indie comedyClass Rank, directed byEric Stoltz.[28] In May 2016, it was announced that she would star alongsideRoss Lynch inStatus Update, directed byScott Speer, with filming to commence the following month in Vancouver, Canada.[29][30]

Theatre

From December 10, 2014, to January 4, 2015, Holt played Aurora inSleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight atPasadena Playhouse.[31]

From April 10 to June 4, 2023, Holt playedRoxie Hart inChicago on Broadway.[4]

Music

Holt recorded three songs for the 2012 filmGirl vs. Monster, in which she also starred. The songs were featured on the compilationMake Your Mark: Ultimate Playlist. She won a2013 Radio Disney Music Award for Best Crush Song for "Had Me @ Hello", which was featured in the film.[18] She also recorded a cover version of "Winter Wonderland" for the 2012Disney Channel Holiday Playlist album.[32] Her song "Carry On" was the theme song for the 2014Disneynature filmBears.[25]

In October 2014, Holt signed a record deal withHollywood Records.[33] Her debut single, "Phoenix", came out on May 13, 2016. The music video was released on June 23, 2016.[34][35]Olivia, her debut EP, was released on July 15, 2016.[30][36]

In 2016, Holt went on her first tour, the Rise of a Phoenix Tour, with Ryland Lynch,Isac Elliot andForever in Your Mind.[37] She and Forever in Your Mind also performed at the 2016TJ Martell Family Foundation Day in Los Angeles on October 9, 2016.[38]

In April 2017, she was picked asElvis Duran'sArtist of the Month appearing onNBC'sToday show withHoda Kotb andKathie Lee Gifford performing her hit "History". Her single "Generous", which was written byFransisca Hall andMoZella, was released on September 22, 2017. The song's music video was directed by Chris Applebaum.[39] "Generous" reached number 1 on the BillboardDance Club Songs chart.[40] In 2018, she collaborated withMartin Jensen on "16 Steps"[41] and withNicky Romero on "Distance".[42] The same year, she released the single "Bad Girlfriend".[43]

Her 2020 single "Love U Again" featuringR3hab reached number 40 on the BillboardHot Dance / Electronic Songs chart.[44][40] It was followed by "Take Me Out of It" later that year.[45] Through early 2021 she released the singles "Do You Miss Me"[46] and "Love On You".[47] She also coveredThe Smashing Pumpkins song "Today" for the TV series in which she starsCruel Summer.[48] On June 11, 2021, a compilation EP called "In My Feelings" was released, containing her previous released singles. On June 25, 2021, she released the single "Next", co-written withMeghan Trainor.[47]

Holt parted ways withHollywood Records in November 2021.[49]

Endorsements

In 2013, Holt partnered with mobile gaming system maker PlayMG as a spokesperson and part owner, to help the company develop new versions of its app-based games.[50] She was announced as a brand ambassador forNeutrogena in March 2016.[15][26]
