Old Talgai is a rurallocality in theSouthern Downs Region,Queensland, Australia.[2] In the2021 census, Old Talgai had a population of 28 people.[1]

Geography

TheCondamine River forms the eastern boundary of the locality, entering from the south-east (Pratten /Bony Mountain) and exiting to the north-east (Ellangowan /Victoria Hill).[3]

Watts Hill is in the south-west of the locality (28°02′33″S151°45′55″E / 28.0425°S 151.7654°E /-28.0425; 151.7654 (Watts Hill)), rising to 510 metres (1,670 ft).[4][5][3]

The Leyburn Cunningham Road enters the locality from the west (Leyburn) and exits to the south-east (Pratten).[6]

The land use is predominantlygrazing on native vegetation with some crop growing.[7]

In the2016 census, Old Talgai had a population of 26 people.[8]

In the2021 census, Old Talgai had a population of 28 people.[1]

There are no schools in Old Talgai. The nearest government primary schools areLeyburn State School in neighbouringLeyburn to the west, Back Plains State School inBack Plains to the north, and Wheatvale State School inWheatvale to the south-east. The nearest government secondary schols areAllora State School (to Year 10) inAllora to the east andClifton State High School inClifton to the north-east. There are also Catholic primary schools in Allora and Clifton.[9]
