Old Country Road is a 17.57-mile-long (28.28 km) major east–west thoroughfare through centralNassau County and extending into westernSuffolk County onLong Island, New York. It serves many of the major shopping centers in central Nassau County includingRoosevelt Field Mall. The road also forms part of the border between the towns ofHempstead andNorth Hempstead. In Nassau County, Old Country Road is county-maintained as theunsignedCounty Route 25 (CR 25) west of Round Swamp Road.[1] This road follows the boundary line separating the towns ofHempstead andNorth Hempstead.
Old Country Road begins as the north–south Herricks Road (unsignedCR 8) curves to the east. It passes by theNassau County government buildings inMineola and northernGarden City around its intersection with Mineola Boulevard/Franklin Avenue (unsignedCR 5A). It then crossesGlen Cove Road/Clinton Road (unsignedCR 1), passing by a series of major shopping centers inCarle Place andWestbury includingRoosevelt Field Mall andThe Mall at the Source. It passes throughHicksville just south of where theconcurrency betweenNY 106 andNY 107 ends. It intersectsNY 135 inPlainview and briefly overlaps Round Swamp Road (unsignedCR 110) before continuing into westernSuffolk County.
Old Country Road overlaps Round Swamp Road before crossing the Nassau-Suffolk County Line at the same time as theLong Island Expressway at exit 48. The route has a junction withNY 110 inMelville. Between Foxhurst Road andCR 35 the Dix Hills Road bridge goes over both Old Country Road andNorthern State Parkway inDix Hills. A connecting road between Old Country & Dix Hills Road exists. The road ends at a junction withNY 25.
In the mid-1970s, Nassau County officials opted to remove all county route signs instead of funding replacements that were compliant with the federal government'sManual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.[4][5]
