Oksana Dyka (Ukrainian:Оксана Дика[okˈsɑnɐˈdɪkɐ]; born 16 June 1978, inZhytomyr), also rendered asDika, is a Ukrainianoperaticsoprano.

Career

Dyka graduated in 2004 at theKyiv Conservatory and sang as a soloist at theKyiv Opera from 2003 until 2007.

She won the 2003 Marseilles International Opera Competition which led to her performance asTosca at theOpéra national de Montpellier in 2005, a role which she sang again that year at theEstonian National Opera oppositeSergei Leiferkus as Scarpia, at theDalhalla Opera Festival in Sweden; in 2008 she sang that role at theTeatro dell'Opera di Roma, directed byFranco Zeffirelli and at theArena di Verona.

Other operatic roles sung by Dyka include Desdemona inOtello at theEstonian National Opera (2005), Elisabetta inDon Carlo at theTeatro Regio in Turin (2006), and Leonora inIl trovatore at the Circuito LiricoLombardo. She sang the title role inMadama Butterfly atOpera Queensland oppositeJerry Hadley as Pinkerton (2007),[1] theTeatro Comunale di Bologna, theGraz Opera, at theValencia Opera, Spain, withLorin Maazel conducting,[2] and in 2010 at the Arena di Verona.[3] Further roles include Marguerite inFaust, Nedda inPagliacci, Tatyana inEugene Onegin, Maria inMazeppa, Abigaille inNabucco, Amelia inSimon Boccanegra in a concert performance at the Estonian National Opera (2008), the Prima Donna/Ariadne inAriadne auf Naxos at theGenoa Opera, and Georgetta inIl tabarro atOpera Frankfurt (2009). In 2010, Dyka sang Violetta inLa traviata at theTel Aviv Performing Arts Center.

On the concert stage, Dyka sang withI Musici de Montréal theSymphony No. 14 by Shostakovich inMontreal in 2004. This was such a successful performance that she sang the work again with theOrchestra di Padova e del Veneto [it] in Italy in 2007 and with theOdense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark in the same year. She also sangFrom Jewish Folk Poetry by Shostakovich. Dyka sang Verdi'sRequiem with theLjubljana Symphony Orchestra (June 2007) and a scenic version at theTampere Opera in Finland (2008). Dyka sang this work again in 2011, performed by theJerusalem Symphony Orchestra.[4] Other concert performances include Beethoven'sSymphony No. 9 (January 2007, Auditorium diMilano) and Britten'sWar Requiem (2004, Kyiv). In January 2005 she sang at theinauguration concert for presidentViktor Yushchenko.[5]

Dyka's debut role at New York'sMetropolitan Opera was in 2014 as Yaroslavna from Borodin'sPrince Igor.[6] She shared the title role ofAida withLiudmyla Monastyrska andTamara Wilson the season after at the same house.[7][8][9]

In October 2017, she performed the title role inZeffirelli's production ofTurandot oppositeAleksandrs Antoņenko as Calàf conducted byCarlo Rizzi at the Metropolitan Opera. She was praised for her icy character, penetrating, steady high notes, and the intimidating rendition of the Act II aria "In questa reggia" but also received reviews pointing out the slight weakness in conveying the character swift to vulnerability.[10][11][12][13]
