Okay Yokuşlu (Turkish pronunciation:[okajjokuʃɫu], born 9 March 1994) is a Turkish professionalfootballer who plays as adefensive midfielder forSüper Lig clubTrabzonspor and theTurkey national team.

Club career

On 27 June 2011, at the age of 17, he signed forKayserispor for a record transfer fee forAltay ofTRY 2.3 million (€1 million).[3] He made hisSüper Lig debut in the starting line-up in which Kayserispor were beaten byAntalyaspor with 1–0 final score, on 16 September 2011.[4]

On 1 February 2021, Yokuşlu joined English clubWest Bromwich Albion on loan fromCelta de Vigo, for the remainder of the 2020–21 season.[5] Six days later, he made his debut for Albion as a substitute forRomaine Sawyers in a 2–0 away league defeat byTottenham Hotspur.[6]

On 26 January 2022, Yokuşlu moved to fellowLa Liga sideGetafe CF on loan until June.[7]

On 18 July 2022, Yokuşlu returned to nowEFL Championship club West Bromwich Albion on a three-year contract following his departure from Celta Vigo.[8] He scored his first goal for the club on 1 November 2022 in a 1–0 home win againstBlackpool.[9] On 5 May 2023, Yokuşlu won West Brom's 2022–23 players' player of the Year award in his first full season with the club.[10]

On 31 July 2024, Yokuşlu returned toSüper Lig clubTrabzonspor for an undisclosed fee.[11]

International career

Okay was selected forTurkey's U-20 squad for the2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored "a beautifully judged chip over the stranded [goalkeeper] from 25 yards (23 m)" to complete the hosts' 2–1 defeat ofAustralia and progression to the last 16 of the competition.[12] On 6 November 2015, Yokuşlu was selected for theTurkey national football team to play friendlies against Qatar and Greece respectively.[13] He made his debut as a late sub againstGreece in a 0–0 tie.[14]

In June 2021, he was included in the list of 26 Turkish players to compete forUEFA Euro 2020.[15]

On 7 June 2024, he is in the final list of 26 players selected byVincenzo Montella to compete forUEFA Euro 2024.[16]
