Herminio Jose Lualhati "Ogie"Alcasid Jr.[1] (born August 27, 1967) is a Filipino actor, singer, songwriter, comedian, director and producer. He is best known for his songwriting and collaboration with other musical artists. He has appeared in films and television shows, notably as a cast member ofTropang Trumpo (1994–1995) andBubble Gang (1995–2013) and a host and main performer ofSOP (1997–2010) andASAP (2017–present). He is currently married toRegine Velasquez, with whom he has one child.

Early career

Alcasid is a former batch member of the all-male singing groupKundirana batch 1984[2] afterGary Valenciano.[3] In 1986, he had intended to star in his first film project, withManilyn Reynes as his love interest, but due to thePeople Power Revolution, production on the film was halted.[4]

His first album was released in 1989.[5] His debut movie wasFeel Na Feel[6][7] released by Regal Entertainment in 1990. In 1991, Alcasid made his VIVA films debut movie,Pitong Gamol.[7]

Alcasid's television career started as one of the hosts of a comedy show namedSmall Brothers onABS-CBN in 1992. He appeared on other comedy programs such as ABS-CBN'sMana Mana (1991–92),ABC'sTropang Trumpo (from 1994 to 1995),GMA Network'sBubble Gang (1995–2013),QTV'sAy, Robot! (2005–07), and a sitcomShow Me Da Manny (2010–11) andWalang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis (2025-present).[8]

He also branched out as agame show host, beginning in ABS-CBN'sGame Na Game Na! in 1995, IBC 13'sFastbreak, a former basketball game show in 1999, the Philippine version ofFamily Feud onABC-5 in 2001 andCelebrity Duets: Philippine Edition on GMA. He was a host onSOP Rules.[9] He got his big break inHanggang Kailan, his first drama show, and also sang its main theme withAiza Seguerra. In 1995, he left ABS-CBN for GMA Network.[citation needed] In 2003, he portrayedJuan Flavier on his life story featured onMagpakailanman.[10]

Alcasid became a judge forPinoy Idol.[11] and hosted such game shows asDa Big Show andHole in the Wall. In 2013, he left GMA Network for TV5, where his first project under the channel wasThe Mega and the Songwriter.

In 2016, he returned to his original home network ABS-CBN after his contract with TV5 had expired. He became the judge ofTawag ng Tanghalan onIt's Showtime[12] and ofYour Face Sounds Familiar[13] starting withKids Season 1. He is now one of the icon performers onASAP Natin 'To and one of the main hosts ofIt's Showtime.[14]

He later appeared on severalGMA Network shows as a guest. He appeared as a guest onYan Ang Morning!,Sunday PinaSaya, andEat Bulaga! as a guest judge. He was a special guest inSarap Diva, hosted by his wife,Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, and the comedy showBubble Gang, where he was a cast member until 2013 before his transfer to TV5.[15]

Alcasid debuted as a singer in 1989 with the release of his self-titled album.Ogie Alcasid reachedgold record status, while his debut single "Nandito Ako" ("I Am Here") was awarded "Song of the Year" by local radio stationMagic 89.9. He has since released 18 albums, including a Christmas album (Larawan ng Pasko/"Images of Christmas", 1994), a live album (OA sa Hits (Live), 2002), four greatest hits albums and three extended plays. He has received a total of twelve gold records, three platinum records, and three double platinum records.[9]

Personal life

In 1995, Alcasid marriedAustralian beauty queenMichelle van Eimeren, who represented Australia in the1994 Miss Universe pageant held in the Philippines. Together, they have two children,Leila (born 1997) and Sarah (born 2002).[44][45] In 2007, Alcasid announced that he and van Eimeren had separated.[44]

On June 7, 2024, Sarah earned herBachelor of Science in Nursing from theUniversity of Notre Dame Australia. Hergraduation was attended by her sister,Leila Alcasid, and their mom,Michelle van Eimeren.[46]

On December 22, 2010, he marriedRegine Velasquez at a resort inNasugbu, Batangas.[47] Together, they have a son named Nathaniel James ("Nate"), born on November 8, 2011.[48] On April 25, 2024, Nate graduatedprimary education at Centro Montessori Internationale, Xavierville Ave,Quezon City.[49]

Alcasid is anEvangelical Christian and attendsVictory Christian Fellowship services.[50]

ComedienneAi-Ai De las Alas is his cousin through his mother. He is also the cousin-in-law ofFrancis Magalona.

Alcasid attended his primary education (From 1974 to 1981) and secondary education (From 1981 to 1985) atLa Salle Green Hills.[51][52]

He attended his tertiary education atUniversity of the Philippines, Quezon City campus (From 1986 to 1993) and graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication.[51][52]
