OP Singh (born 2 January 1960) is a 1983 batchIPS officer ofUttar Pradesh cadre. He was theDirector General ofUttar Pradesh Police, and had previously served as theDirector General ofCISF andDirector General ofNDRF.

OP Singh has apostgraduate (MA) inPolitical Science fromDelhi University,[4][5][6] he also holds apostgraduate degree (MPhil) inInternational Relations fromNational Defence College, affiliated toMadras University.[4][5][6] Singh has also earnedMBA degree inDisaster Management.[4][5][6]

Career

OP Singh has served in various key positions for bothUnion andUttar Pradesh Governments (Police), like as theDirector General of Uttar Pradesh Police,Additional Director General (Intelligence),Additional Director General (Special Enquiry),Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Moradabad and Azamgarh ranges,Deputy Inspector General (Anti Corruption Organization) andCommandant of 11thBattalion ofProvincial Armed Constabulary inUttar Pradesh Governments (Police),[4][6] and asDirector General ofCentral Industrial Security Force (CISF),Director General ofNational Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Additional Director General in CISF,Inspector General/Deputy Inspector General (IG/DIG) inCentral Reserve Police Force.[4][6]

Singh has also served as the DistrictSenior Superintendent of Police/Superintendent of Police (SSP/SP) ofLucknow,Allahabad,Moradabad,Lakhimpur Kheri,Bulandshahr andAlmora.[4][6]

He was appointed as the Director General of Central Industrial Security Force by theAppointments Committee of the Cabinet in September 2016.[7] He assumed the office of DG on 26 September 2016.[4]

OP Singh assumed charge as the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police on 23 January 2018.[8][9][10]

He was appointed as the Director General of Uttar Pradesh Police by theChief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,[11][12][13] on the recommendation of a high-level committee consisting of theChief Secretary ofUttar Pradesh,Rajive Kumar, as its head, with the other members beingPrincipal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar andPrincipal Secretary to theChief Minister, Shashi Prakash Goyal.[11][12][13]

Controversies

Singh was theSenior Superintendent of Police (SSP) ofLucknow district when the infamous attack onMayawati in a VIP guesthouse happened.[14][15][16][17] Subsequently, he was suspended by theGovernment of Uttar Pradesh.[4][6]

During his tenure asAdditional Director General (ADG) ofMeerut (NCR) zone, violence in Phase-II ofNoida city happened.[18][19][20] Subsequently, he was transferred by theGovernment of Uttar Pradesh and was attached toDGP Headquarters.[4][6][21]
