Nse Ikpe-Etimlistenⓘ (born 21 October 1974) is a Nigerian actress.[1] She came into prominence in 2008 for her role inReloaded. She was nominated forBest Actress in a Leading Role at the5th and8th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her role inReloaded andMr. and Mrs., respectively.[2][3] In 2014, she won theBest Actress in a Drama award at the2014 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for playing "Nse" inJourney to Self.
Etim was born on 21 October 1974 inLagos.[4][5][6] Etim attended Awa Nursery School and Command Primary School inKaduna State in northern Nigeria, from where she then furthered her studies at Louis College,Jos inPlateau State, Nigeria, and the Federal Government Colleges inJos andIlorin. She said that her family was often transferred to various regions of Nigeria due to her father's career with theCentral Bank of Nigeria.[citation needed] Etim got her first degree inTheater Arts from theUniversity of Calabar.[7][8]
Etim is the first of six children. In an interview withToolz, she stated that she hadCaucasianGodparents.[9] She married her childhood friend Clifford Sule on 14 February 2013 at a Lagos registry.[10] A traditional wedding ceremony followed in her hometown inAkwa Ibom State andLagos State,some months after the civil union. She currently resides inLondon with her husband, a senior lecturer atMiddlesex University and frequents Nigeria for film engagements.[11][12][13]
On Friday 20 March 2020, she posted on herInstagram page that she had just returned from theUnited Kingdom, one of the hardest hit places byCOVID-19, according to the Federal Ministry of Health. She, however,followed the directives ofNigeria Center for Disease Control(NCDC) to be self-isolated. She received support from colleagues, such asRita Dominic,Chika Ike,Iyabo Ojo among others.[14]
At 18, Etim started acting on stage plays at the university. Her first television appearance was in the family soapInheritance.[15] After graduating from the university, she temporarily left the film industry to pursue other endeavors before making a comeback with Emem Isong'sReloaded alongsideRamsey Nouah,Rita Dominic,Ini Edo andDesmond Elliot.[16][17]
In December 2019, Nse Etim was featured in theVisual CollaborativePolaris catalogue under theSupernova series for humanities. She was interviewed alongside people such as:William Coupon,Bisila Bokoko andAde Adekola.[18]
In 2020, she was in the cast ofQuam's Money a follow-up to the 2018 filmNew Money directed byTope Oshin. The sequel follows what happens when a security guard (Quam) suddenly becomes a multi-millionaire. The new cast was led byFalz,Toni Tones,Jemima Osunde,Blossom Chukwujekwu and Nse Ikpe-Etim.[19]
In february 2021, she played the lead role alongsideRichard Mofe-Damijo andZainab Balogun in Seyi Babatope movie direction,Fine Wine[20][21]
She recently starred in the 2023 Netflix limited seriesShanty Town
